Roadtrip Review: Terrace Cafe in Charlotte, NC

Today's Choice off the Breakfast Menu was the Terrace Cafe in Charlotte, NC.

It was our second morning in Charlotte, and it being the weekend there were fewer breakfast/brunch options available in uptown. We had to drive a little bit to find the Terrace Cafe, and I was very glad we did. It was a very nice spot with a lovely dining atmosphere, great decor, and amazing food. It was definitely a highlight of the trip.i left this restaurant and wanted to wrap it up and bring it home with me.

Restaurant:
The restaurant is a trendy little brunch spot in South Park. The interior was incredibly upscale and lavish. The decor and service was top notch. The menu had amazing sounding items like Smores French toast and Red Velvet waffles. There was so much about this place to love that it was hard to imagine that someone hadn't peeked into my notebook and stolen my notes on all the best ways to run a restaurant. If I had one complaint it was the high dark ceilings and that was only because it made it hard to photograph in the place. the atmosphere was really nice in spite of that small problem.

Verdict:

We ordered the specialty items, the Red Velvet Waffle, and the Smores French toast. My wife also ordered the shrimp and grits but that isnt nearly as visually interesting as what the rest of us got. it did look and taste good, but was a little too spicy for me.

The Smores French toast was a favorite for everyone at the table. our friend Leia called it Smores for adults. We all noticed how the chocolate and marshmallows were not too heavy and not too rich so as to be decadent.  they used a semi sweet chocolate that really helped not be overwhelm the taste.

The Red Velvet waffle was divine. It really captured teverything I would need in a waffle. It was fluffy and cake like but not heavy in any way. It was crisp and topped with a delicious cream that really accented the dish. I was more than surprised by how much I loved this place.

Overall Experience:
I give the whole experience 5 out of 5 broken eggs:

Terrace Cafe was as near a perfect dining experience as we could have. The service was top notch, the decor and environment was excellent. Our server was attentive and congenial, and the food was absolutely heavenly. I think it earned its reputation as the "best brunch in Charlotte." It is definitely a place I recommend highly to locals and out of towners alike.

Recipe: Sweet Rice

Today's recipe was a family staple sweet rice, Most people would call this rice pudding. Its about the same, but we tend to eat it warm, where others may eat it cold. We also consider it to be a useful addition to any meal, be it as a side dish or a breakfast. The recipe is pretty easy, so I suggest you try it for yourself.

Review: Lemon Ricotta Pancakes at Cheesecake Factory

Today's choice off the Breakfast Menu was Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and the French Toast Napoleon from the Cheesecake Factory Today the wife and I decided to hit up the Cheesecake factory for brunch. We have eaten there once before for breakfast but that was so long ago that I did not have a clear memory of why we had never returned. A friend of ours really likes eating at the establishment and it had been forever since we ventured that way. The restaurant was of course packed to the gills but we discovered the secret of the bar area where, if you can grab a table, you can jump the line and get seated faster.

Review: Zoup!

Today’s choice off the Breakfast Menu was Zoup!  Fresh Soup Company: Every now and again a friend will call me to sit down and bend my ear to their tales and troubles. Today was  one of those days where I found myself on the other side of the table while a friend laid out a personal issue. We decided on Zoup! at Stetson Square. It specializes in various soups. They let you taste them before you buy, so you have the chance to try over a dozen different soups. The soups were tasty but not spectacular. It was a pleasant experience for a quick lunch.
