Roadtrip Reivew Cajun Queen in Charlotte, NC

Today's Dinner Choice was Cajun Queen in Charlotte NC

It was a good night for me. A friend had offered to buy me and the wife dinner while in Charlotte and another friend who was a local Charlotte-ite had offered to show us around. We ended up at the Cajun Queen, which my friend Ed highly recommended. We were not disappointed as the place offered good food in an upscale atmosphere and a taste of Nawlin’s soul in North Carolina.

Restaurant:

Cajun Queen was a jazzy place with live music and a crowd. We walked in without reservations so we had a half hour wait. We were quote a large party and the place looked good so we decided to stick it out. The bar area was a little crowded but it was open enough that we could have conversations without having to shout and the bartender was quick and responsive. The menu was enticing and offered many treats that we wanted to sample. Their website touts them as the best Cajun food in Charlotte and I believe it by their offering in the menu. They offered fried green tomatoes, Cajun fried oysters and the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp which my friend recommended. They also offered a few blacked fish entrees, Creole and Etoufee style entrees as well.

The verdict:

The BBQ shrimp was very good. My friend had it as an app and as a meal. It was very first rate. It wasn’t spicy really at all. I am a big fan of shrimp and I have tried barbequing shrimp at home. While I cooked my own more to my liking I could see myself stopping by here to have just this shrimp if I didn’t feel like cooking.

I got the 16 oz Ribeye, which came with mashed potatoes and a cup of gumbo. The steak was great. It was well seasoned and well cooked. The sides were terrific and complemented the dish well. I ordered it medium, which is unusual for me but it was worth it. They cooked it with a pink inside which was very flavorful. It didn’t taste under cooked at all and I was glad I ordered it that way. The gumbo was a little spicy but I expected that. It was a good opener to a luscious meal.

We also had the bourbon bread pudding for dessert. It was sweet and delicious. It was top notch for bread pudding. It was a little crisp at parts inside but I liked that.

The food was amazing, and the service was pretty good. It was an experience I would highly recommend to friends in the area and I would definitely consider a return trip.

Recipe: Sweet Rice

Today's recipe was a family staple sweet rice, Most people would call this rice pudding. Its about the same, but we tend to eat it warm, where others may eat it cold. We also consider it to be a useful addition to any meal, be it as a side dish or a breakfast. The recipe is pretty easy, so I suggest you try it for yourself.

Review: Lemon Ricotta Pancakes at Cheesecake Factory

Today's choice off the Breakfast Menu was Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and the French Toast Napoleon from the Cheesecake Factory Today the wife and I decided to hit up the Cheesecake factory for brunch. We have eaten there once before for breakfast but that was so long ago that I did not have a clear memory of why we had never returned. A friend of ours really likes eating at the establishment and it had been forever since we ventured that way. The restaurant was of course packed to the gills but we discovered the secret of the bar area where, if you can grab a table, you can jump the line and get seated faster.

Review: Zoup!

Today’s choice off the Breakfast Menu was Zoup!  Fresh Soup Company: Every now and again a friend will call me to sit down and bend my ear to their tales and troubles. Today was  one of those days where I found myself on the other side of the table while a friend laid out a personal issue. We decided on Zoup! at Stetson Square. It specializes in various soups. They let you taste them before you buy, so you have the chance to try over a dozen different soups. The soups were tasty but not spectacular. It was a pleasant experience for a quick lunch.
